Stephen (Steve) joined Somerset Smith Partners in 2017 and is an NZX Adviser holding a Financial Adviser status.

At Somerset Smith Partners he enjoys being part of a team of likeminded investment professionals, where constant sharing of market news and company announcements is discussed and analysed. He has 32 years of Financial Services experience which includes approximately 23 years working with clients and their investment portfolios.

Steve is enthusiastic about investment and follows the capital markets locally and internationally. When he is not reading and researching investment industry material, he is actively engaging with his clients to enhance and maintain their portfolios. He can assist you in establishing and maintaining your investment portfolio by applying the nationally recognised advice process to ensure you receive a personalised advice service
and recommendations.

On a personal note, Steve and his wife have two children. In his spare time Steve supports the arts and is a member of the Hastings Choral Society, he also enjoys travel, motorsport, fishing and walking.

After graduating from Canterbury University in 1979 with a LLB (Hons) Stephen worked as a solicitor before joining Perpetual Trust in 1980 as a solicitor and adviser. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 1986 a role he held for seventeen years until 2003, during which time the company increased funds under management from $150m to $12b.

He has also been Chief Executive of two NZX listed forestry funds Opio and Nuhaka and served two terms as Chief Executive of the Trustee Corporations Association.

Stephen relocated to Hawke’s Bay in 2004 to use his experience in investment advice to advise a range of retail clients, as well as advising a range of companies regarding capital market activities. He joined Somerset Smith Partners Havelock North office in 2010.

He has extensive governance experience having been a director of many companies including the SOE MetService.

Stephen has extensive experience to draw on enabling him to provide advice on a wide range of domestic and international investment options in both fixed interest securities and equities.

Stephen has two adult daughters. He has a lifelong interest in sport particularly rugby. He is also keen on music, reading, food and wine and some exercise to keep fit. For the past 18 years he has been a member of the Hastings, Karamu Rotary Club.

Mike provides bespoke investment advisory services to a full range of retail clients. He is experienced in advising across all asset classes.

Mike joined Somerset Smith Partners in 1992, and was admitted as a Member of the New Zealand Stock Exchange in 1997. In 2003 he became a Foundation NZX Adviser.

In 2004, Mike left Somerset Smith Partners to pursue other career interests working on large scale events. In 2007, Mike joined the New Zealand Police where he spent the next 10 years working in various roles.

Mike rejoined Somerset Smith Partners in November 2016 resuming his role as an Adviser.

Mike was appointed the firms General Manager in January 2021 while still retaining his Advisory role.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys time with his wife Karen, travelling and entertaining friends and family. He has been heavily involved in sport most of his life, in particular athletics where he competed at a national level. He still likes to keep fit and attends bootcamp regularly.

Jackie returned to New Zealand in 1998, having spent the previous 11 years working in finance internationally with three large US Investment Banks specialising in fixed interest investment portfolios for European and Middle Eastern institutions.

In 1998 Jackie joined JB Were in Wellington as a financial adviser, working with retail clients on their fixed interest and equity investment portfolios as well as a number of trusts. She worked with JB Were for 6 years.

Jackie relocated to Hawke’s Bay to live in 2006, working with another NZX firm before joining Somerset Smith Partners in 2010 in their new offices in Havelock North.

Outside the office Jackie enjoys the Hawkes Bay outdoor lifestyle living at the beach. Having trained as a chef in London Jackie has a passion for food and wine and enjoys entertaining family and friends and has a keen interest in well being and keeping fit.
